Date: January 1998 The following information explains why we have Russians and others over flying our military installations. It still does not explain their specific interest in Crane. I wonder how many Americans realize that our sovereign air space and our possibly our security is being compromised every time one of these flights is allowed. If what we are being told is true, we have no need to perform low level flights over other nations in order to know what they are doing. our spy satellites are quite sufficient for the task. The Russians and Czechs, and who knows who else are the ones that are really benefiting from this arrangement. FEB-98 FINAL FLIGHT PLAN - OPEN SKIES Employees of Crane Division and Tenant Commands,Crane Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center is scheduled to be overflown on Thursday, 5 February, between 1300 and 1615, by an Open Skies flight chartered to the Czech Republic. The overflying aircraft will be equipped with a variety of sensors that can include any of the following types: - Panoramic or video cameras - Infra-red line scanners - Synthetic aperture radar Take necessary precautions to protect any sensitive material, operations, or emissions during the overflight period which may be subject to compromise or collection. Questions can be addressed to the local Open Skies POC, CDR Jasitt, 854-1411, or to the Navy Open Skies Treaty Manager, Ms. Hammersley, (703) 602-3390 (DSN 332). The United States signed the Treaty on Open Skies in 1992, which obligates our country to accept overflights of the entire nation by any of the other 24 nations which are parties to the treaty. Sincerely, CDR Jasitt |
